Major Steps!

Great news everyone! I did something a little crazy, and over the next twenty years or so, we’ll see if it works out!

Yup, I am now a dues-paying, card-carrying member of the SAG-AFTRA Union!

I am now eligible for a lot more interesting roles and projects! I get paid more, work (slightly) less, and have a ton more time to go on auditions!

With this new development, I’m also re-upping my efforts on the Great Agent Search, so I’ll let you know of any progress on that front.

Check out my iActor resume at http://www.sagaftra.org/iactor/KimMiner, and stay tuned for more whacky adventures!

Let the Agent Search Commence!

Hi!

I recently set about the rather overwhelming task of researching and submitting myself to agencies for representation in film and television. It involved sifting through approximately 800 agency websites and selecting 50 that would only accept snail mail submissions. Fifty was my limit because that’s how many fancy window envelopes I had. I’ve still got twenty seven agencies I want to submit to that only accept electronic submissions, so that will be my next task.

My roommates were super supportive while I worked myself into a tizzy over the whole thing. And then they helped me address and stuff the 45 envelopes with my headshot, resume, and cover letters! My speech to the Academy one day will definitely include my thanks to them for all the patience and papercuts.

This process made me think about why I do what I do, why I’m passionate about storytelling and film, and reminded me why I’ve been referring to my career as The Warpath. At first, I found it overwhelming. But I pushed through with the thought, “Why not me?” I can do whatever I set my mind to, and I strive for excellence in all that I attempt. And with these convictions, I take another step along my warpath.

(Can you tell I’ve been reading ASOIF again? I swear, it seeps into my vernacular and I have to refrain from yelling, “I AM DAENERYS STORMBORN OF THE HOUSE TARGARYAN. I WILL TAKE WHAT IS MINE WITH FIRE AND BLOOD!” while driving down the 101.)

Anyway, wish me luck!

Oh, also! Pictures from my most recent project will be going up soon, and I think I might add a “Behind the Scenes Pics” page to this site. We’ll see!

New work!

Hey everyone (and Dad, *waves*)!

I just wanted to let you know that I’ve updated my reel page to include some of my student work in 2013-2014. And, as promised, both Kurtis’ “Assassin” and Stephanie’s hand-to-hand scene.

Also, check out “Shaman”, proof that comedic timing is a skill you are born with, but you can pretend you have with the right editor! Thank you, Kurtis, for momentarily making me funny. Also for those delicious croissants.

Combat!

I’ve recently been working on several small projects featuring combat, and I hope I’ll be able to put them up here! For one piece I co-choreographed and performed a brawl, and in another I played a emotionally absent assassin and strangled someone, and then got to do my first “stunt” which involved parkour-ing my way over a cement wall, jumping down to catch my prey, and promptly slamming his head into a railing. So, all around it was some good, clean fun!

Stage combat has been a passion of mine for a long time, so I’m glad to finally have some filmic evidence of my training. Also, my fight partners in both pieces were class-acts, so a round of applause is most definitely in order for those three.
